Counseling for Men in Ridgeland, MS and Online Across Mississippi
You can say the true thing out loud without it costing you everything.
You may be here because holding it together stopped working.
Most men do not come in because they ran out of feelings. They come in because something started leaking. The temper that surprised you. The distance your wife named out loud. The thing you promised yourself you would stop doing and then did again on Tuesday.
You may be functioning fine on paper. Job, family, responsibilities handled. And you may also be carrying something you have never said to another person, telling yourself you will deal with it once things calm down.
They do not calm down. That is not a character flaw, it is arithmetic. Shame keeps things hidden, and hidden things grow.

Who this helps
Who this is for
Men in their twenties through retirement. Married, single, divorced, and remarried. Fathers, husbands, business owners, pastors, first responders, and men who do not identify with any of those categories.
Older teen boys, with therapists who work specifically with that age.
Men who chose to come, and men who came because someone else asked them to. Both are real starting points.
What we work on
What we work on
Anger that is covering something else, usually hurt, fear, or shame.
Emotional disconnection, the sense that you are watching your own life from a distance.
Marriage and relationship struggles, including affairs, betrayal, and rebuilding trust.
Pornography and compulsive sexual behavior, and the isolation that surrounds it.
Trauma, including childhood experiences, combat, first responder work, and abuse.
Anxiety, panic, and depression, which in men often show up as irritability, overwork, or withdrawal rather than sadness.
Fatherhood, career transitions, identity, and purpose.
Grief, including losses you were expected to absorb and keep moving.
Our approach
How Stillwaters approaches men's work
- 1
Directness with warmth.
Our therapists will ask real questions, name what they see, and push where pushing helps. They will not shame you, and they will not let you stay comfortable.
- 2
Approaches on the team
include attachment-based and trauma-informed care, EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method for couples work, cognitive behavioral tools, and men's group facilitation.
The working assumption is that the behavior making trouble in your life makes sense once you understand what it is protecting. That is not an excuse. It is the only starting point from which change actually holds.
Availability varies by therapist. It depends on which clinician you are matched with and how flexible your availability is. If you need to be seen sooner, say so when you call and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
Why this needs to be its own kind of care
Men often arrive later, with more built up, and with less practice putting it into words. Therapy that waits patiently for a man to volunteer his inner life can burn six sessions before anything happens.
It also matters that a therapist has heard it before. Men carrying sexual compulsion, affairs, or shame about what they have done frequently expect judgment, and they scan for it in the first ten minutes. A therapist who does this work regularly does not flinch, and that alone changes what becomes sayable.

What to expect
What to expect

- 1
The first call.
Say as much or as little as you want. If it matters to you to see a man, say so. If it does not, we will match on clinical fit instead.
- 2
The first session.
Mostly you talking and your therapist asking questions. No couch, no ink blots, nobody telling you your problems started in third grade. By the end you should have a rough sense of what the work involves. If you do not, ask.
- 3
The work.
Practical, direct, and paced to what you can actually do between sessions.
- 4
Length.
Some men come in for a specific problem and are done in five to seven sessions. Trauma, addiction recovery, and marriage repair usually take longer, because you are rebuilding something rather than solving something. Your therapist should give you a real estimate after intake and should be tracking whether it is working.
