How do I get started?

Call 601-707-5550 or use the appointment request on our contact page. Tell our intake coordinator what is going on in ordinary language. You do not need a diagnosis or a tidy summary. They will ask about scheduling, insurance or self-pay, and any preferences you have about your therapist.

Do I have to choose my own therapist?

No. You can if you want to, and every therapist has a profile you can read. But most people would rather describe what is happening and let us find the right fit. That is what our intake coordinator does, and she considers the concern, the age of the client, personality fit, insurance, and schedule.

Question 3

How soon can I get an appointment?

Availability varies by therapist. It depends on which clinician you are matched with and how flexible your availability is. If you need to be seen sooner, say so when you call and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

What happens in the first session?

Mostly listening and questions. Your therapist will want to understand what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you are hoping changes. You will not be asked to tell your whole history in one hour. By the end you should have a sense of what the work looks like. If you do not, ask.

How long are sessions?

Standard sessions are about 50 minutes. Some work, including couples intensives and certain trauma approaches, uses longer sessions. Your therapist will explain the length and cost of your appointments in advance.

Do you take my insurance?

We work with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare or UMR, and Fox Everett. Participation varies by clinician and by plan, so call us and we will confirm your benefits before your first session.

How much does counseling cost without insurance?

Call 601-707-5550 and we will tell you the current rate. If your insurance does not cover mental health, or you would rather not use insurance, we offer a sliding hourly rate based on total household income.

What is your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. That lets us offer the time to someone else who needs it. If you cancel late or miss a session, you may be responsible for the full session fee. Fees are based on the full session rate rather than your copay, and insurance does not cover them. Two things worth knowing. If you reschedule within the same week, before your original appointment time, the fee is waived. And if getting to the office is what is making it hard, ask about moving that session to telehealth rather than cancelling. If something unexpected comes up, call us and talk to us.

Do you offer online counseling?

Yes. We are licensed to serve all 82 Mississippi counties, for clients physically located in Mississippi at the time of the session. Most of our clinicians offer telehealth. One sees clients in person only.

Do you work with children and teens?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Age ranges vary by therapist, starting as young as three for play therapy. For ages 10 to 12, our intake coordinator will help you decide whether play therapy or teen counseling is the better fit.

Can faith and spirituality be part of my counseling?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you want them to be, and it is always your call. Some of our clinicians include Christian faith directly when a client asks, through prayer, Scripture, or theological reflection. Others bring a faith-informed perspective without bringing it into the room. Tell our intake coordinator what matters to you and we will factor it into the match. If you would rather leave faith out, say so and your therapist will follow your lead. We meet every client where they are, whatever they believe.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, with narrow limits set by state law: suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult; a serious and imminent risk of harm; or a court order. Your therapist will walk through all of it in the first session. If you have a specific concern about confidentiality, ask directly. It is a fair question and you will get a straight answer.

Can my spouse or family member join my sessions?

Sometimes, and sometimes a separate couples or family therapist is the better answer. Bringing someone into your individual sessions changes the room, and it is not always a change that helps you. Talk with your therapist. They will tell you what they recommend and why.
